Langtang Region

The Langtang lies about 130 km north of Kathmandu Valley close to the border with Tibet. Langtang is Nepal’s fist national park. The Langtang Valley is a beautiful alpine region to the North of Kathmandu bordering Tibet. The Langtang trek offers the greatest diversity with the least effort of Any trek in Nepal. There is a series of north- south running valleys that provide a variety of possible trekking routes. The Gosainkund and Helambu regions lie to its south; these can be combined with Langtang to make treks from 7 days to 21 days. The area was designated Nepal’s first Himalayan National Park in 1971, it is inhabited by Tamang people whose religious practices, language and dress are much more similar to those of Tibet than to the traditions of their cousins in the middle hills. Here the high alpine scenery, with mountains visible from inhabited nature of the country makes this an ideal destination for trekkers who are on a tight time schedule. The Langtang trek lies on the Great Himalaya Trail network. The route via Sherpagaon has the best views: trekkers coming from the Taman Herigate Trail should certainly use it. The second option is the quickest directly along the Langtang Khola from Syabrubesi. The third option folows the old route from Dhunche through Thulo Bharkhu to Syabru and then drops on to the main valley trail.
